Windows Systems Administrator

The Windows Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining all IWU Windows OS Servers (hardware and software) and Services in and outside of IWU’s domain. These services include; AD DS, firewalls, PowerShell scripting and CLI, Kerberos, CAS, users groups and GPO’s, patches and OS upgrades, DNS, DHCP, Radius, Samba, PKI and CA/Cert environments, web services and enterprise backup/restore procedures. Requires proficiency in managing virtualization, specifically vCenter and vsphere, in a clustered environment. This includes multiple datastores and SAN/NAS appliances. Must know how to investigate and remediate server/service issues from information gathered from various system alarms and log files. Requires exemplar analytical and communication skills to create documentation, reports and to represent IT in-group meetings. Building strong positive relationships and taking a lead position during projects that consists of other co-workers, administrative staff, faculty, students and various outside vendors is a must. The Director of Network Services may assign other duties.

Responsibilities

•        Install, operate and maintain Microsoft Server software and hardware. Installing updates and patches to MS Server software as well as troubleshooting and replacing failed hardware
•        Install and maintain IWU’s Active Directory Domain Services environment to include, but not limited to: AD, DHCP, DNS, PKI, Users and Groups, Group Policy (GPO), directory schema, and PKI/CA/Cert environment
•        Install, operate and maintain the VMWare hardware and software environment. Installing updates and patches to VMware and ESX software as well as troubleshooting and replacing failed hardware. Also required to make recommendations for the growth and usability of this environment
•        Install, maintain, operate and remediate issues associated with enterprise backup and replication systems. Troubleshoot and remediate failed backup jobs as well as recover data from these backups
•        Use communication skills to design and build reports, participate and have meaningful contributions to technical meetings, and construct intelligent and comprehensive documentation for Network Services technical archives
•        Continuously building relationships with other administrators, peers, and outside vendors during everyday operations as well as during major project engagements

Minimum Qualifications:

•        BA/BS in a Computer Science related discipline or equivalent experience
•        Formal classroom training for MCSA or MS Domain Services is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•        Strong knowledge of MS DS administration, MS Server administration, DNS, DHCP, Radius, AD, PowerShell, MS CLI, MS Firewalls, Kerberos, SAMBA, MS Domain users, groups and GPO’s, web services, backup systems, VPNs, PKI/CA environments
•        Ability to self-start
•        Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: Recruiting, training and managing part time student employees throughout the school year and full time student employees throughout the summer
•        Any MCSA certification would be a plus
