MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR (PERSONAL WELLNESS SERVICES)
Southwestern College

This position may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and extension site assignments. Successful candidate may be assigned to any of the campus sites (Chula Vista, National City, Otay Mesa, and/or San Ysidro).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction and leadership of the Director of Student Development and Health Services, the Mental Health Counselor provides brief, mental health intervention to students enrolled at Southwestern College in order to promote emotional health, student success and retention at the college. These services include; psychological assessment, crisis intervention, personal counseling/ psychotherapy, case management, “wellness” workshops, referrals to community services, student, faculty/staff consultations and staff development activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of: a Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development OR the equivalent.

NOTE: A license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline. AND two years post licensure experience with an approved intern supervisor by CAMFT or AAMFT. Mental health counseling experience, preferably involving experience working with under prepared and at risk students as well as individuals with disabilities is desirable.

Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a rich and diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds, and those with disabilities. Experience working in a community with a similar diversity pattern as is found in the service area for Southwestern College is preferable.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Ph.d in Psychology and licensure in California as a Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Professional Clinical Counselor is desirable.

SALARY & BENEFITS:
Upon initial employment, full-time faculty members are placed on the salary schedule based upon years of experience and education. The maximum initial placement for experience is Step 6. Faculty members are encouraged to continue their professional development through additional study qualifying them for advancement on the salary schedule. STARTING DATE: As soon as the successful candidate is identified and following the subsequent governing board approval.

TIMELINES:
March 7-April 20, 2018 - Position advertised; District receives applications
April 20, 2018 - Initial screening deadline for guaranteed consideration. Position is open until filled.
May 7-18, 2018 - Search Committee interviews candidates
May 21-25, 2018 - Second level interviews of top finalists
June, 2018 - July 1 start date pending Governing Board approval.
