Provide expert solutions to our key partners for this unique coverage area
Position: Underwriter, Terrorism
Reporting to: NE Regional Executive
Location: Manhattan
The role
Hiscox is an established market for Terrorism insurance and we recently introduced a new suite of coverages under the brand name of HiscoxR5. These include first and third party coverage for traditional bricks and mortar attacks along with lone wolf active shooter events. We have a highly collaborative culture where your contribution is crucial to the ambitious goals of our growing US Business Unit. At Hiscox, we supply the resources and you’re expected to use them to write profitable business in a competitive environment. This is not a status quo P&C underwriting environment where the few carry the many. Here you will use your positive attitude, industry knowledge and ambition to create a pipeline of business, place good risks, and be a trusted advisor to Terrorism brokers throughout the Northeast Region.
What you’ll be doing:
•        Underwrite, price and negotiate accounts consistent with the quality of the risk and according to the company’s strategy and guidelines for the product lines

•        Develop new relationships and increase productivity of existing relationships with wholesale and retail brokers throughout the Region
•        Engage with the National and Global Terrorism team to learn and teach collaboratively
•        Maintain excellent customer service standards
•        Monitor product results and develop ideas to increase productivity and profitability
•        At times, 10-20% Regional travel required including industry events and broker visits

•        Strong technical command of property and casualty underwriting, preferably in the middle-market sector. Strong interest in political risk and physical security is preferred
•        Customer-centric mind-set and passionate about the power of superior customer service and offerings
•        Team-oriented, ability to collaborate and desire to share information across divisions and teams to further the overall goals of the company
•        Proven track record of understanding and delivering meaningful underwriting profit
•        Outgoing, driven, high attention to detail and results focused mentality
•        The ability to identify business needs
•        Strong understanding of basic sales principles, negotiation skills and demonstrate a competitive drive
•        Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•        Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently in a collaborative environment
•        Innate service focus which enables one to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external customers and partners
•        B.A./B.S degree is preferred
•        Willingness to develop business, with travel throughout the Northeast up to 25%, required
