Responsible for assessing the wellness education and activity needs of the student campus community and planning, developing, coordinating wellness programs, events, and activities to meet or exceed the needs of the student campus community, under the guidance of Associate Director of Wellness and Community Responsibility.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement educational programs, services and special projects that target specific populations such as residence hall population, Greeks, orientees, foreign students, minority populations, etc.
Survey and meet with students and faculty to identify barriers and develop solutions to support student's full participation in their success and wellness engagement at Eastern Michigan University.
Initiate transition, orientation, support groups, peer relations, student organizations, and other co-curricular programs to support students in their success at Eastern Michigan University, as necessary.
Coordinate annual program assessments and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency and success of Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility programming and services. Coordinate and lead biennial review committee for alcohol and other drug policies in accordance with the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act. Assist with the development, implementation, prioritization and maintenance of the Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility website, and Simplicity case management system to achieve area goals.
Investigate and pursue wellness-related grants and outside funding sources.
Participate in University policy development on wellness related issues. Ensure area policies and protocols are in compliance with university policies and local, state, and federal laws.
Assist in the maintenance of required university records related to the Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility and compile service reports, informational materials, and data reports to comply with institutional, local, state, and/or federal mandates/requirements.
Prepare and deliver presentations on Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility issues and services and provide training to university staff and faculty surrounding these issues and services.
Assist university personnel in ensuring compliance with all applicable local state and federal laws and all other related legal regulations.
Represent the Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility on university committee's concerned with addressing student issues, campus culture, and university policies and procedures.
Mange case files and perform timely and accurate intake and resolution for confidential case referrals involving policy and/or process concerns/violations when needed. Handles subpoenas for Legal Affairs.
Maintain appropriate confidentiality in all forms of communication, complying with FERPA, University, and Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility guidelines and ensure adherence to University policies and confirm due process as it relates to institutional protocol.
Represent the University's interests at external meetings, professional organizations and other events or through scholarly contributions related to the Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility within higher education.
Perform related Departmental duties, as required.
Knowledge of assessing health education needs and health-oriented programming, typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Public Health, or a related field, is required. Professional licensure, certification or eligibility for either in a wellness related field is preferred.
Master's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Leadership and Counseling, a related area, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, is desirable.
Two years' experience in wellness related programming or health education related field specific to assignments, preferably in a college health setting, is necessary. Demonstrated knowledge of Clery and Drug Free Schools and Communities Acts. Interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills required.
Ability to work independently, yet collaboratively and strong program planning and facilitation skills are required.
