Assistant to the Vice President and University Counsel/Board Secretary

The University of Puget Sound invites applications for a motivated, collaborative and detail oriented Assistant to the Vice President and University Counsel to join the team! 

Puget Sound is a 2,800-student nationally ranked liberal arts college established in 1888 in Tacoma, Washington, a vibrant, diverse mid-sized urban port city.  Within, and near, Tacoma there is ready access to urban, rural, and natural areas as well as opportunities to participate in a wide variety of cultural activities.  Puget Sound’s undergraduate program is based on a core curriculum for all students and includes a wide selection of majors in the liberal arts. 

The Assistant to the Vice President and University Counsel manages a wide range of complex administrative operations in support of the work of the Office of University Counsel and the Vice President. The Assistant is responsible for performing assignments independently and in a timely and efficient manner on the basis of general outlines or directions without specific instructions. The Assistant helps to coordinate and support all activities of the Office, as may be directed by the Vice President. The Assistant interacts with multiple internal Puget Sound administrative departments, faculty, staff, and students, as well as with external constituents including board of trustees (“board”) members, outside counsel, opposing counsel, State and federal government agents and representatives, and members of the public.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications: 
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus at least two years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience; experience in a law office or in higher education preferred.
• Paralegal certificate or paralegal experience preferred.
• Advanced-user level experience with Microsoft Office suite or similar word-processing, spreadsheet, and other productivity software required; Advanced-user level experience with Microsoft Outlook or similar calendaring or email software and legal document management systems such as Worldox and online legal research tools such as Westlaw or Lexis/Nexis preferred.
• Experience with or understanding of higher education operations at the senior decision-maker level preferred.
• Experience coordinating executive’s calendar and travel schedule preferred.
