Job Summary:

The University Identity and Access Management (IAM) Architect (UIAMA) serves as a thought leader for IAM at Harvard, driving the evolution of a state-of-the-art security architecture for the University that is user friendly, cost-effective, and strategically aligned.
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both broad and deep experience with and knowledge of IAM architectures, products and services in on-prem, cloud, hybrid- and multi-cloud as well as SaaS and PaaS environments. This candidate should be able to evaluate and decompose legacy architectures as well as craft new world-class architecture from scratch.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Be a thought leader and contribute to the University-wide IAM strategy
• Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of IAM solutions to support the university's security requirements and business processes
• Seek opportunities to research, design, and advocate new IAM technologies, architectures, and security products to support security requirements
• Drive planning of identity management roadmaps and technology enhancements, partnering with IT departments across the University to understand emerging needs and facilitating the creation of best practices and standards across the organization
• Lead building of technical proofs of concept to create new capabilities to address roadmap items created by HUIT, Schools and units
• Drive initiatives to transform IAM provisioning and lifecycle management leveraging self-service and automation capabilities to enable a frictionless user experience
• Collaborate with service owners and stakeholders to create and maintain policies and standards related to identity procedures and infrastructure
• Consult with, advise, train and develop members of the IAM application development team
• Assist technology partners with the design of IAM strategies, architectures and integrations
• Serve as the final escalation point for IAM tools and technologies
• Additional responsibilities as assigned
Basic Qualifications
• Minimum of seven years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience

The seven years' required experience listed above must include:
• Hands-on experience in lead architecture role for multi-cloud / hybrid-cloud IAM architecture spanning multiple organizations
• Demonstrated IAM architecture design experience
• Experience managing architecture in a cloud environment (AWS, Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform) with experience building and releasing infrastructure-as-code (IAC)
• Experience with SAML and/or CAS authentication protocols
Other Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in IAM thought leadership role in a multi-stakeholder / multi-organization setting
• Experience with Shibboleth IdP, Apereo CAS Server, Internet2 Grouper, IGA tools (e.g., Sailpoint IIQ), IDaaS (e.g., Azure AD, Okta)
• Collaborative leadership style with ability to convert strategic goals into actionable objectives
• Strong consulting skills and adept at working across multiple departments to break down barriers to collaboration and partnership
• Demonstrated experience in organizing and articulating relationships between multiple complex IT systems
• Demonstrated skill in fostering strong, collaborative relationships throughout all levels of an organization
• Experience coaching and mentoring software developers
• Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
Certificates and Licenses
• Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred
Working Conditions
HUIT actively supports hybrid work where business needs allow. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).
Travel to campus may be necessary based on business needs and the nature of work. Examples include bi-annual or quarterly Town Halls, critical business meetings or other work events. There will be times when being on campus is expected and advance notice will be provided. This position has been designated as a primarily remote position with responsibility to travel to campus 1-2 days per month. Additional detail will be discussed during the interview process.
